Team: individual
Time: 2024.Jan, 2 weeks
Scale: 68x132x12 mm/ 2.68x5.2x0.47 inch
Materials: Brass, Enamel

Inspired by the color 19-4052, the color of the year of 2020, this deep blue reminds me of the ocean and the feeling of being surrounded by fish while snorkeling in Taiwan. This project explores the properties of both translucent and opaque enamels and how varying kiln time affects the final outcome. The result captures the essence of underwater seascapes, highlighting the interplay between color and light. It's a reflection on nature’s hidden beauty through metalsmithing artistry.

▲ The fish body is shaped from brass, layered with a gradient by mixing two enamels, and tested with white enamel.
▲ The fins are joined using brass rivets, allowing movement.

Inspired by Ocean

In my search for inspiration, I gathered a variety of ocean-themed elements—waves, the interplay of light and shadow in the sea, and artistic interpretations and techniques used to depict the ocean.

▲ Experimenting with Sgraffito and Graphite techniques, as well as blending different shades of blue.
